About the role

QoT places Performance Engineers with clients across banking and payments, iGaming, telco, insurance, and general technology. As a Performance Engineer, you'll design, execute, analyse, and continuously improve performance engineering services across applications, services, platforms, and delivery pipelines. The specific client and domain will be confirmed as part of the placement process.

What you'll do

  • Interpret business transactions and non-functional requirements to define performance objectives and test conditions.
  • Design realistic workload models, test scenarios, transaction mixes, and execution approaches.
  • Build, maintain, and execute performance test scripts and scenarios using approved tools and standards.
  • Collect and analyse observability data, logs, metrics, traces, to identify bottlenecks and probable root causes.
  • Translate technical findings into clear recommendations on optimisation, scaling, or remediation.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, and infrastructure teams to explain performance risks and outcomes.

What you'll need

  • 3+ years' experience in performance testing, load modelling, execution analysis, and reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with performance tooling, workload modelling, and bottleneck identification.
  • Working knowledge of response time, throughput, concurrency, and scalability concepts.
  • Understanding of observability concepts - metrics, logging, tracing, and dashboards.
  • Strong reporting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to banking/payments, iGaming, telco, or insurance environments.
  • ISTQB Performance Testing certification.
  • Cloud foundation certification (e.g. Azure or AWS fundamentals).
  • Exposure to observability/SRE practices or Kubernetes-based environments.

Work setup

  • Location: Cape Town, Johannesburg, or Durban, with hybrid/remote flexibility depending on client requirements.
  • Employment type: contract, with length set by the client engagement. Some roles are fixed-term, others roll on an ongoing basis.
  • Some travel to client sites may be required depending on engagement.
